Prime Video will launch 'The Greatest,' an authorized scripted series about Muhammad Ali, in the fourth quarter of 2026. Showrunner Ben Watkins stated the series aims to present aspects of Ali's life not covered in existing documentaries or interviews. Lonnie Ali, Muhammad Ali's widow, and Michael B. Jordan are executive producing the eight-episode first season.
Season one of 'The Greatest' will cover Ali's career from 1960, when he won an Olympic gold medal as Cassius Clay, to 1964, when he secured his first heavyweight title. This period will explore his intimate coming-of-age story. Jaalen Best has been selected to portray the young boxer, a decision Lonnie Ali emphasized was based on Best embodying Ali's necessary courage, conviction, and heart.
Michael B. Jordan highlighted that 'The Greatest' is the first project to be authorized by the Ali estate, underscoring Ali's significant impact beyond sports. Previously, Will Smith was nominated for an Oscar for portraying Ali in the 2001 film 'Ali.' Dexter Darden also appeared as Ali in the 2024 Peacock series 'Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.'
