Mubi has secured worldwide distribution rights for two high-profile Spanish series produced by Movistar Plus International. The first, 'La Mesias,' is a large-scale production from the acclaimed directing duo Los Javis, known for their distinctive creative vision and pop sensibility.
The second series is 'Riot Police,' the debut premium TV series from director Rodrigo Sorogoyen, celebrated for its cinematic quality. Both series were central to Movistar Plus International's presence at the Iberseries & Platino Industria market in Madrid, where numerous new deals were announced.
'La Mesias' delves into themes of legacy and repression, exploring the psychological trauma inflicted by a messianic mother who establishes a cult. The series is noted for its genre-bending approach, incorporating psychodrama, sci-fi, and musical elements across multiple timelines.
'Riot Police' examines the fragility of the masculine psyche as a riot police squad faces an internal investigation following a botched eviction. Sorogoyen's direction is highlighted by its stylistic evolution, including innovative camerawork in key sequences.
These acquisitions come as Movistar Plus International continues to expand the reach of Spanish content globally. Other successful titles like 'The Anatomy of a Moment' and 'Querer' have also recently closed significant international distribution deals.
