Madhuri Dixit's Killer Role: Mrs. Deshpande Underwhelms

A gripping mystery unfolds in Mumbai as a serial killer claims victims, leaving them posed with a unique green rope. The modus operandi echoes unsolved murders from 25 years prior in Pune, raising questions about copycats or a deeper connection. Police bring in Mrs. Deshpande, a seemingly model prisoner played by Madhuri Dixit, to assist in the investigation, a move met with skepticism by a younger detective.

Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, this six-part series, adapted from the French thriller 'La Mante,' features Madhuri Dixit in a role that allows her to shed glamour for a more intense portrayal. While Dixit possesses the acting chops for such a character, the writing for Mrs. Deshpande is described as flat, only occasionally conveying menace. Supporting characters add intrigue but don't elevate the overall tension.

The series struggles to maintain a consistent thrill, a stark contrast to Kukunoor's previous work. Despite Madhuri Dixit's presence and her character's compelling backstory hints through impactful childhood flashbacks, the show's execution is uneven. Ultimately, 'Mrs. Deshpande' is rated two and a half stars, with its potential left largely unfulfilled.
