On September 28, 2025, popular YouTuber MrBeast, also known as Jimmy Donaldson, uploaded a video titled "Would You Risk Dying For $500,000?," which quickly went viral. The video showed a stuntman named Eric facing a series of fiery "death traps" in an attempt to win a $500,000 cash prize.
The footage sparked immediate concern from MrBeast's fans, who voiced their safety worries online. In response, the YouTuber issued statements on both YouTube and X (formerly Twitter), assuring his audience that they took safety extremely seriously during the production.
MrBeast explained that the challenges were tested by multiple stuntmen, and they had a full rescue team on standby, including firefighters, EMTs, and divers, equipped with an ambulance and fire truck. He also noted that they had a pyro team controlling the fires and multiple fire suppression methods in place to ensure they could quickly extinguish the flames if necessary.
The YouTuber praised the production's stunt coordinator and revealed that they did not need to utilize any of the safety systems, as the professional stuntman, Eric, emerged from the stunts unscathed and walked away with $350,000 in prize money.
Despite the safety measures, the video has prompted mixed reactions from fans, with some applauding the stuntman's skill and others drawing comparisons to the Netflix series "Squid Game," which MrBeast had previously brought to life in a 2021 video.
