Bollywood Stars Unite for Lucknow-Set Film 'Mr. Paanwala'

Vijay Bhola, a prominent figure in the UK's live entertainment industry for four decades, makes his directorial debut with the Hindi feature film 'Mr. Paanwala'. The music-driven film is set for a worldwide release on YouTube on April 3, 2026, under the Rock On Music label.

Set in Lucknow, 'Mr. Paanwala' is a narrative centered on an elderly couple operating a paan shop, exploring themes of tradition, family, and the emotional consequences of migration. The film features notable performances and aims to capture the cultural essence of Lucknow, with the paan shop symbolizing heritage and community.

The movie's soundtrack boasts contributions from acclaimed singers Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani, and Shaan, with music composed by Jazim Sharma. Bhola emphasized that the songs are organically woven into the story, reflecting his belief in music's narrative power. The film uniquely examines migration from the perspective of those left behind, highlighting emotional distances within families.

Bhola expressed his transition from organizing large-scale live shows to filmmaking, driven by a desire to tell stories that resonate long-term. The film received positive feedback at its London premiere from artists like Badshah and Vishal Dadlani, who praised Bhola's successful leap into cinema. The global release on YouTube aims to connect with audiences worldwide, particularly the diaspora, through its relatable themes and musical richness.
