The music world is mourning the loss of Phil Campbell, the celebrated guitarist for the iconic metal band Motörhead. Campbell, who was 64, passed away peacefully after a lengthy intensive care battle following a major operation.
Born in Wales, Campbell began his career in the late Seventies with the band Persian Risk before being recruited by Motörhead's Lemmy Kilmister in 1984. He became the band's longest-serving guitarist, a role he held for 31 years until Motörhead disbanded after Lemmy's death in 2015.
During his tenure, Campbell recorded 16 studio albums and crafted memorable riffs for tracks like "Deaf Forever." He later released his solo album "Old Lions Still Roar" in 2019 and performed with his band, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, who had a European tour scheduled for earlier this year that was postponed due to medical advice.
Fellow Motörhead member Mikkey Dee remembered Campbell as "the funniest guy" and "the best rock guitar player," highlighting his outstanding talent and pleasant nature. Campbell is survived by his family, who have been sent condolences.
