"Mortal Kombat III" Greenlit, Screenwriter Teases Expanded Storyline

The "Mortal Kombat" franchise is set to continue its expansion, with the announcement of a third installment in the series. At New York Comic Con this past weekend, screenwriter Jeremy Slater revealed that he has been hired to start writing the next film, titled "Mortal Kombat III."
The sequel to the 2021 "Mortal Kombat" movie, which was a box office success, is scheduled to hit theaters on May 15, 2025. While details about the plot of the third film have not yet been shared, Slater expressed his excitement about the project, stating that the studio is "so convinced that there is a giant fanbase waiting for it."
In addition to Slater's return, the upcoming "Mortal Kombat III" will feature several new cast members, including Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, and Tati Gabrielle as Jade. They will join the returning cast from the previous film, such as Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, and Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade.
The "Mortal Kombat" films, based on the popular video game series, center on a series of tournaments between champions of the Earthrealm and the chaotic Outworld. The upcoming sequel is expected to further expand on the tournaments and the ongoing conflict between the realms.
