Fan Loses $3,200 in Alleged Morgan Wallen Ticket Scam

A Michigan fan reportedly lost around $3,200 after purchasing what he believed were VIP packages for Morgan Wallen concerts, including tickets, a meet-and-greet, and a signed guitar. Mathias Conant, who planned to attend with his daughter and granddaughter, received no items days before the scheduled shows. He had trusted the seller, John Klein, founder of the HailGate tailgate group, due to prior positive experiences with the community.

Klein denied any wrongdoing, stating that customers would receive refunds. However, one customer's refund was still pending the day after it was initiated. Other patrons reported varied outcomes, with some receiving valid tickets, while others disputed charges or eventually obtained refunds. Chelsea Anderson, who sought a meet-and-greet package, had her concerns removed from a HailGate Facebook group and was expelled before receiving a refund after media involvement.

Official information from Ticketmaster indicates that Morgan Wallen does not participate in VIP meet-and-greet activities. Despite this, Klein allegedly advertised such packages. Attorneys for Morgan Wallen sent Klein and HailGate a cease-and-desist letter on July 17, 2026, demanding an end to the advertisements and full refunds for affected customers. Michigan Athletics confirmed no business relationship with Klein and noted previous cease-and-desist letters regarding unlicensed merchandise.

Consumer protection agencies have received complaints about Klein, specifically regarding sports memorabilia not being provided. Local police are also investigating multiple reports. Consumers are advised to verify VIP package details before payment and to purchase from official vendors, paying with credit cards for dispute options if needed.
