AI studio Moonmax is launching an expanded production slate, signaling a move into more mainstream film. The company, known for AI education, is developing several features, including a project based on Captain Hook's origin story. This AI-assisted film, titled 'James,' will trace the literary pirate's life from his days as a Royal Navy officer to his mutiny and turn to piracy. It will utilize a hybrid workflow, combining real human performances with AI integration. Elliot Grove, founder of the British Independent Film Awards, is executive producing 'James.'
Moonmax's slate also features other hybrid productions. 'People of the Wolf,' based on Kathleen and Michael Gear's 'North America's Forgotten Past' book series, will blend live-action with AI-driven animation. Additionally, 'Snowbear,' an original children's film, tells the story of a family finding a displaced yeti, serving as an allegory for environmental issues. This film will merge hand-drawn elements with AI-powered image-to-video technology.
Moonmax CEO Daniel Gordon emphasized a balanced future for filmmaking. He stated that the company believes the future will be hybrid, not entirely AI-driven. Gordon asserted that the most creative projects will prioritize human craft and talent, with AI being selectively used for execution after the story and development phases are complete.
