Moody Blues Bassist John Lodge Dies Suddenly at 82

In a tragic turn of events, John Lodge, the renowned bassist and singer of the legendary British rock band The Moody Blues, has passed away at the age of 82. According to a statement released by his family, Lodge died "suddenly and unexpectedly" on October 10, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones and the sounds of his musical influences, The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly.

Lodge, who was born in Birmingham, England, joined The Moody Blues in 1966, two years after the band's formation, alongside fellow singer Justin Hayward. He remained a vital part of the group for over five decades, contributing to some of their most iconic albums, including the 1967 psychedelic masterpiece "Days of Future Passed" and its 1968 follow-up, "In Search of the Lost Chord."

The Moody Blues continued to perform live until 2018, the same year they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Lodge's family noted that he would always end the band's shows by saying, "Thank you for keeping the faith," a testament to his unwavering dedication to his craft and his loyal fanbase.

Lodge is survived by his wife, Kirsten, whom he married in 1968, and their two children, Emily and Kristian. The Moody Blues' song "Emily's Song" from the 1971 album "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" was a tribute to his daughter.
