Monia Chokri, a celebrated Québécois actress, director, and screenwriter, will preside over the jury for the prestigious Caméra d'Or prize at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. This award is dedicated to recognizing the best first-time directorial efforts presented across the festival's official selection, as well as parallel sections like Critics' Week and Directors' Fortnight.
Chokri, who garnered attention for her acting roles in films by Denys Arcand and Xavier Dolan, made her directorial debut with "A Brother's Love." This was followed by "Babysitter" and "The Nature of Love," the latter earning her a César Award. She expressed that a debut film represents a profound "second birth" for an artist, a moment of truth and self-discovery.
Assisting Chokri on the jury will be Michel Benjamin (cinematographer), Cédric Coppola (film critic), Marine Francen (director/screenwriter), and Christophe Massie (film industry executive). These members are drawn from prominent film associations integral to the Caméra d'Or jury's composition.
