Mona Singh Reveals Why She Declined Iconic TV Role

In November 2025, acclaimed actress Mona Singh opened up about her selective approach to roles and the reason she turned down the lead role in the popular TV show Anupamaa years ago. At that stage of her career, the 44-year-old had made a conscious decision to focus on OTT projects and pick character-driven roles, rather than continuing with television.

Mona explained that she was approached for Anupamaa, but she declined the offer as she had decided not to do TV shows anymore. The lead role eventually went to actor Rupali Ganguly, who has been playing the character for more than five years. Mona expressed her admiration for Rupali's performance, saying, "She is doing such a fabulous job. I think that role was meant for her, and she has owned it beautifully."

The actress admitted that being selective was not always easy, as it meant waiting for the right project to come her way. However, she shared that she was content with her decision and had no regrets. Mona also reflected on how social media has influenced casting decisions in the industry, noting that she felt fortunate that people continued to value actors for their craft rather than just their follower count.
