Ancient Feast Tradition Inspires New Tamil Film

The debut directorial of CR Manikandan, titled 'Moi Virundhu,' brings to light a distinctive village custom. This tradition involves families in need hosting a communal feast, after which attendees offer monetary contributions. The film features veteran actress Archana in a lead role, portraying Seetha, a descendant of the family that introduced this practice to the fictional village of Moikkaranpatti.

Supporting Archana are Deepa Shankar and Sujatha, playing her friends. Rakshan and Ayesha star as the younger generation, Karthik and Revathi. The production, initially planned for 40 days, was successfully completed in 33 days. Although the narrative is set in the southern part of Tamil Nadu, the principal shooting took place in Pannaikadu, Kodaikanal.

Manikandan sought an experienced technical team for his first film, enlisting D Imman for music and M Sukumar as the cinematographer. He believes an experienced crew provides valuable feedback on directorial decisions. Sukumar's long-standing friendship with Manikandan also contributed to their collaboration on this project.
