CoD: Modern Warfare 4 Targets Sports Fans at Fanatics Fest

Activision is making a significant marketing push for "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4" by securing a headlining spot at Fanatics Fest, a large sports fan convention held at the Javits Center in New York City. This marks the first time a video game has been featured prominently at the event, which anticipates 150,000 attendees from Thursday through Sunday.

The decision to target sports fans stems from Activision's observation of a strong overlap between "Call of Duty" players and those who engage with sports titles. Chief marketing officer Tyler Bahl noted that many "CoD" buyers also purchase sports games, citing instances where players believe "Call of Duty" has improved their on-field communication. This strategy aims to get more fans to demo the game before its October 23rd release.

"Modern Warfare 4" will feature prominent activations, including those with Aston Martin and Polaris, celebrity matches, and a live panel. This panel will include Bahl, NBA star Kevin Durant, Infinity Ward director Mark Grigsby, and actress Inde Navarrette. Navarrette, known for her role in "Obsession," was invited due to her history as a dedicated "Call of Duty" streamer.

The game's marketing also emphasizes its New York City setting, incorporating elements of NYC culture like Wu-Tang Clan music. The narrative involves Captain John Price starting the story in New York City, pursuing Vladimir Makarov, with the game also featuring a North/South Korean conflict storyline.
