Miss Haiti Speaks Out: Pageant Held 'Many Red Flags'

Melissa Sapini, representing Haiti at Miss Universe 2025, has detailed a troubling experience during the international pageant held in Thailand. She described witnessing "many red flags" daily, creating an atmosphere of confusion and concern among the 121 contestants. The competition was further overshadowed by widespread illness, with numerous participants being hospitalized.

Sapini recounted incidents, including a confrontation between a pageant executive and a contestant, which she felt was a turning point. She also highlighted concerns over food safety, as many contestants suffered from food poisoning. Despite these issues, contestants felt pressured to attend events, risking disqualification if they fell ill.

Adding to the controversy, several judges, including musician Omar Harfouch, withdrew from the selection committee just days before the pageant, citing allegations of judging misconduct. Sapini expressed deep disappointment, feeling that the sacrifices made by contestants were undermined by what appeared to be a compromised competition.
