Abnormal Studios has acquired theatrical distribution rights for Malaysia and Brunei for the science-fiction fantasy feature "Mimpi Kita: Castle in the Air." This collaboration marks a significant step for the film, which recently participated in the NAFF Project Market. Abnormal Studios will also serve as the worldwide international sales agent for the film, excluding Malaysia and Brunei, and plans to launch its sales efforts at the Asian Contents & Film Market in Busan in October.
The distribution company, a subsidiary of Westec Media Limited, is known for releasing approximately 100 titles annually across Southeast Asia and other regions. For "Mimpi Kita," Abnormal Studios will collaborate with the filmmakers on marketing assets and the domestic rollout strategy, intending to utilize Kotodama Lab's audience-engagement algorithm. Director Arifin Ajib expressed optimism about reaching the target audience with this partnership.
Further demonstrating commitment to the project, the "Mimpi Kita" team is organizing a fundraising event on August 14 in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, in partnership with the Nine Arts Festival. This event is designed to attract potential equity funders and will feature a pre-event dinner, an art installation, and the launch of the film's original soundtrack, signaling robust efforts to bring the film to fruition and audiences.
