In a recent development, Hulu has announced the pickup of a pilot for a new scripted drama series titled "Southern Bastard". The series, which is being produced by Onyx Collective, POV Entertainment, Proximity Media, and Fifth Season, is based on the graphic novel of the same name.
The pilot episode will be executive produced by Matt Olmstead, who will also serve as the showrunner. Nia DaCosta, the director of the upcoming "Candyman" film, and Bill Dubuque, the creator of "Ozark", are also attached as executive producers and share story credits.
The pilot's central character is a tenacious military veteran who travels to Craw County, Alabama, in search of her estranged father. However, what she discovers is a murderous hornet's nest of organized crime run by the winningest high school football coach in the South. The source material for the series comes from the graphic novel created by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour, who will also serve as executive producers on the pilot.
