The 9th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) has announced its full program and honorees. South Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-dong will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his impactful work.
The festival, scheduled for July 18-25 in Kuala Lumpur, will feature 65 films from 35 countries, spanning 27 languages. This edition includes two world premieres and numerous regional premieres, highlighting a diverse range of global cinema.
MIFFest president Joanne Goh praised Lee Chang-dong's ability to create universally resonant films. The tribute includes screenings of his acclaimed works, "Peppermint Candy" and "Oasis." Additionally, Chinese actor-director Wu Jing will receive the Excellent Achievement in Film Award, with a screening of "Blades of the Guardians: Wind Rises in the Desert."
The festival opens with the world premiere of Malaysian film "BAGA: Tomorrow Belongs To No One" and concludes with the Golden Bear winner "Yellow Letters." The International Competition section will present 10 films from emerging directors, with Malaysia's "The Waves Will Carry Us" as its entry.
