Michelle Branch has unveiled a reimagined duet of her 2002 hit "Goodbye to You," now featuring Maren Morris. The reworked track, released via BMG, transforms the song into a full duet, with both Grammy winners trading lines about change and independence. Branch expressed her excitement, calling Morris's rendition superior to the original. Morris, who considers Branch an influence, noted Branch's encouragement to personalize the song.
The accompanying music video is a direct homage to early 2000s nostalgia, recreating a prom scene from MTV's "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County." Kristin Cavallari, who gained fame from the reality series, stars alongside Branch and Morris in the video. Cavallari shared that the song "Goodbye to You" evokes strong memories of a specific time in her life, calling the experience a "full-circle moment."
This collaboration is the second offering from Branch's upcoming EP, "Everywhere and Back Again," set for release on November 6, 2026. The EP celebrates her 25-year music career by revisiting catalog songs with guest artists. Earlier this year, a reworked version of "The Game of Love" with Gregg Alexander was released. The EP's launch coincides with Branch's "Everywhere and Back Again Tour," which includes a 2027 leg due to high demand.
"Goodbye to You" was originally featured on Branch's 2001 debut album, "The Spirit Room," which achieved significant success worldwide. The song itself became a Billboard Hot 100 top-40 hit in 2002. Branch has a Grammy for her collaboration with Carlos Santana, "The Game of Love," and also topped the Country Songs chart with the Wreckers.
