18 Oct
Summary
- Michael Mann plans to experiment with AI technology for "Heat 2"
- "Heat 2" has moved from Warner Bros. to Amazon MGM-owned United Artists
- The sequel will explore the characters' backstories and timeline before the original "Heat" film

According to a recent report, acclaimed director Michael Mann is embracing the use of AI technology for his upcoming sequel to the 1995 crime drama "Heat." The director, who received the Lumiere Award last night, stated that he is not one to experiment with technology gratuitously, but will utilize it when there is a dramatic or aesthetic need.
Mann revealed that "aging and de-aging" of the characters may be a crucial element in "Heat 2," which he hopes to start filming next summer. The long-anticipated sequel has moved from its original home at Warner Bros. to the Amazon MGM-owned United Artists, with producer Scott Stuber now attached.
The director also shared details about the plot of "Heat 2," explaining that it will move back and forth in time, exploring the characters' lives before and after the events of the original film. Mann noted that the characters of "Heat" are "so alive" to him, and the idea of delving into their backstories and how they became the people seen in the 1995 movie was compelling.
"Heat 2" is described as an "expensive movie to make," but Mann believes it should be produced at the proper size and scale. The film is set to shoot in various locations, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Paraguay, and possibly Singapore.
