Jackson's Friend: Doctor Enabled King of Pop's Downfall
25 Jun
Summary
- Dr. Arnold Klein is accused of enabling Michael Jackson's addiction.
- Klein allegedly prioritized fame over patient health by prescribing drugs.
- Ultimately, Jackson's friend holds the singer responsible for his own death.

A close friend of Michael Jackson has alleged that dermatologist Dr. Arnold Klein played a role in enabling the pop star's fatal drug dependencies.
Geoffrey Mark, an award-winning producer who met Jackson through Klein, claimed that Klein was more interested in the Hollywood jet-set lifestyle than his patients' well-being. Mark stated that Klein continued to write prescriptions for substances like Demerol, even though he suspected Jackson was addicted.
Mark suggested Klein's actions stemmed from a desire to maintain his access to famous clients and the associated lifestyle. He asserted that Klein "couldn't say 'no' to Michael" because it would have jeopardized his privileged position within celebrity circles.
However, Mark ultimately holds Michael Jackson himself responsible for his own demise. He believes that Jackson, despite having the financial means to seek alternative medical help, succumbed to his existing addiction, stating that only the individual can truly make a difference in overcoming such struggles.
The King of Pop died on June 25, 2009, at age 50 from acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication, administered by his physician Dr. Conrad Murray, who was attempting to treat his insomnia. Murray was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
