Plans for a follow-up to the critically acclaimed Michael Jackson biopic are reportedly underway, with actor Miles Teller confirming the team is actively developing a sequel. The first film, featuring Jaafar Jackson as the iconic King of Pop, set records with the highest-grossing opening weekend for a biopic and has become a significant financial success in 2026.
While no official confirmation has been made, rumors of a sequel have been persistent, especially given the first movie concludes in 1988. Teller, who portrayed Jackson's lawyer John Branca, indicated that while he hasn't had direct talks about reprising his role, the creative team is enthusiastic about completing the narrative.
Co-star Nia Long, who played Katherine Jackson, has noted she signed for a single film but hopes fans will encourage the continuation of the story to explore Katherine's journey and family dynamics further. Director Antoine Fuqua has also voiced a strong desire to helm the second installment, stating it would be disheartening if another director took on the project.
