Michael Jackson Biopic Shatters Box Office Records

The Michael Jackson biopic, 'Michael,' has made history by becoming the first biographical film to surpass $1 billion at the worldwide box office. This remarkable achievement includes $371.8 million from North America and $629.8 million internationally. As the first Lionsgate release to cross this financial threshold, 'Michael' has now out-grossed 'Bohemian Rhapsody' to become the highest-grossing music biopic.

Furthermore, the film has surpassed 'Oppenheimer' to claim the title of the highest-grossing biopic to date. John Branca, a producer on the film and executor of Jackson's estate, highlighted the enduring global love for Michael Jackson, stating, "The worldwide love for Michael is undeniable. There's a lot to celebrate."

The film's immense success has sparked discussions about a potential sequel, with Branca acknowledging public calls for a continuation of Jackson's story. While he stressed that "Nothing is set yet," he raised the possibility of 'Michael' being the first major biopic to receive a follow-up installment.

Branca also commended the cast and filmmakers, including Miles Teller, who portrays him in the movie. He specifically praised Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson's nephew and the film's lead, suggesting he deserves an Academy Award. Other praised cast members include Colman Domingo, Nia Long, and director Antoine Fuqua.
