Michael Jackson Biopic Expanded to Two-Part Epic

Lionsgate's highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, titled Michael, is likely to be expanded into a two-part feature film, according to the latest comments from the studio's executives. As of November 7th, 2025, the first installment of the biopic is scheduled to hit theaters and IMAX on April 24th, 2026, after its release was delayed several times, most recently from the fall of 2025.

The studio has now had the opportunity to see the director's cut of the first film, and according to Lionsgate's Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson, it is "exceptional." Marking his feature debut, Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of the pop music icon, will portray Michael Jackson in the lead role.

Lionsgate has already dropped the first official teaser for the musical drama, which features Jaafar Jackson recreating iconic dance moves from the late singer's memorable music videos. The positive early response to the teaser has been described as "wild enthusiasm," with Fogelson stating that "people have been waiting a long time for this" and that they are "stunned with Jaafar's performance."
