The biographical film 'Michael' is achieving significant success at the North American box office, cementing its place as one of the top five highest-grossing music biopics in history. The movie has maintained the number one position in domestic box office rankings.
On its first Wednesday, 'Michael' grossed $7.3 million, ranking it seventh among all April releases. This performance also makes it the fourth biggest opening Wednesday for any biopic, trailing only 'American Sniper,' 'The Passion of the Christ,' and 'Oppenheimer.'
Within six days of its release, the film has accumulated an impressive $123.3 million domestically. This figure means 'Michael' has already surpassed the total domestic earnings of the acclaimed films '8 Mile' and 'Walk the Line,' two major music biopics.
'8 Mile,' starring Eminem, had a domestic run totaling $116.7 million. 'Walk the Line,' which chronicled Johnny Cash's life, earned $119.5 million domestically. By surpassing these benchmarks, 'Michael' now holds the distinction of being the fourth highest-grossing music biopic ever in North America.
