Miami Debates Becoming GTA's Vice City
7 Sep
Summary
- County officials proposed Vice City branding for Miami assets.
- Law enforcement criticized the idea, citing criminal themes in GTA.
- A commissioner is pushing for GTA 6 advertising waivers for city funds.

Miami-Dade County officials explored a marketing strategy to rebrand parts of the area as "Vice City," inspired by the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI. Proposals included applying Vice City branding to Miami International Airport and the Metromover system, as well as a Vice City Radio Lab at the Main Library. These ideas emerged from a pitch deck submitted to Rockstar Games, the game's developer.
However, the concept has faced significant opposition. Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz criticized the proposal, stating that Miami-Dade County is not Vice City and that the GTA franchise's focus on criminal activity contrasts with law enforcement's efforts. Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez also expressed disbelief at the prospect of rebranding county assets. Despite this, City of Miami Commissioner Damian Pardo is advancing an ordinance to allow Rockstar waivers for advertising, with funds intended for the Rev. Edward T. Graham Heritage Trail.
