A striking new building on Doha's skyline houses the world's first museum dedicated to the renowned Indian artist MF Husain. Named "Lawa Wa Qalam," the museum opened last week and is part of Qatar Foundation's Education City. It offers a comprehensive look at Husain's career, featuring over 150 diverse works and objects.
The expansive 3,000 sq m space aims to immerse visitors in Husain's unique perspective, as envisioned by the curator, Noof Mohammed. The museum celebrates the legacy of the prolific artist, who was granted Qatari citizenship in 2010 and spent his later years in the country.
Husain, celebrated as "the Picasso of India" for his bold, vibrant style blending modernism with Indian themes, is known for his iconic horses. Despite his artistic acclaim and a period of controversy that led to self-imposed exile, his museum in Doha now stands as a testament to his enduring global influence.
