Silvia Moreno-Garcia's celebrated 2020 horror novel, "Mexican Gothic," is transitioning into a graphic novel format. The adaptation is slated for publication in fall 2027 by BOOM!, an imprint of Del Rey Books. Author Steph C. Solis is collaborating with Moreno-Garcia on the script and illustrations.
Moreno-Garcia described the process as enjoyable, emphasizing a visual direction that embraces vibrant colors, inspired by 1950s Hammer films and classic giallos like "Suspiria." This approach contrasts with typical gloomy Gothic aesthetics, promising a lush and dramatic visual experience.
The original "Mexican Gothic" follows Noemí Taboada as she uncovers sinister secrets at the High Place. Moreno-Garcia's other recent work includes the noir novel "The Intrigue," released on July 14. The author has previously spoken about her serious approach to the horror genre.
