Strand Releasing Acquires Acclaimed Mexican Debut Feature

Strand Releasing has secured North American distribution rights for Bruno Santamaria Razo's debut feature, "Six Months in a Pink and Blue Building." This acclaimed Mexican drama made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival's Critics' Week.

The film, set in early 1990s Mexico City, centers on an 11-year-old boy navigating his emerging feelings for his best friend. Simultaneously, his family faces turmoil with the revelation of his father's HIV diagnosis. The narrative later jumps three decades forward, exploring the protagonist's reflections on childhood memories.

This acquisition highlights the film's strong festival circuit presence, including multiple awards at Cinélatino Toulouse. It also represents a historic moment for Mexican cinema, as it's the country's first feature selected for Cannes Critics' Week in almost twenty years. Strand Releasing plans a spring 2027 release.

Bruno Santamaria Razo, who also penned the screenplay, produced the film with Bruna Haddad and Carlos H. Quiñónez. Co-producers include Desvia Films from Brazil and Snowglobe from Denmark. Strand Releasing's Jon Gerrans expressed excitement about the "beautiful, unique film," noting Razo's documentary filmmaking background. The producers expressed their happiness in partnering with Strand Releasing, citing their history of supporting Latin American directors.
