26 May
Summary
- Metallica urges UK fans to donate blood and plasma.
- Collaboration with NHS Blood and Transplant services.
- Donations support trauma victims, cancer patients, and more.

As Metallica launches the UK leg of their M72 World Tour, they are collaborating with national blood services in an unprecedented move to encourage fans to donate blood and plasma. The initiative involves NHS Blood and Transplant in England, the Welsh Blood Service, and the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service.
The heavy metal legends aim to support existing donors and attract new volunteers. Blood services emphasize the constant need for donations, noting blood's short shelf life of 35 days. These contributions are crucial for treating various patients.
Metallica's spokesperson expressed the band's desire to make a meaningful impact in the communities they visit. "Wherever we go on tour, we want to give something meaningful back," they stated, referencing successful campaigns in the US and Australia. Upcoming concerts include Glasgow on June 28, Cardiff on June 30, and two dates at London Stadium on July 3 and 5.
"As we close out the European leg of the M72 World Tour in the UK, we're asking fans to step up and be part of something bigger than the show," the band's representative added. Alan Prosser of the Welsh Blood Service called it a "truly unique moment," emphasizing that donations can save up to three lives. Gerry Gogarty of NHSBT noted Metallica's power to "raise the volume" and boost vital blood stocks.
