- Galliano theme was scrapped after public backlash over controversial remarks.

The Met Gala's spring exhibition has been reimagined with a new theme, "extraORDINARY: Fashion and the Poetics of the Everyday." This exhibition will spotlight the beauty and allure found in ordinary garments such as T-shirts, jeans, and raincoats. Curator Andrew Bolton stated the goal is to encourage visitors to see the everyday anew, exploring how designers elevate simple clothing and how humble materials become wearable art.
The exhibition will open to the public on May 9, 2027, and run through January 9, 2028, with the gala event scheduled for May 3. This theme replaced a planned tribute to designer John Galliano, which was canceled due to public backlash over his history of antisemitic and racist remarks.
Bolton emphasized the need for a challenging and provocative theme, aiming for an idea with contemporary resonance rather than a mere substitute. Visitors are invited to participate by wearing their own favorite casual items, like t-shirts or hoodies, to the show.
