Melissa Gilbert's Shocking Injury and Sherri Shepherd's Grudge
3 Oct
Summary
- Melissa Gilbert hit her head on partner's leg during a dance
- Sherri Shepherd was eliminated after Gilbert's injury
- Shepherd still resents Gilbert's missed votes years later

In 2012, during the 14th season of Dancing with the Stars, Melissa Gilbert suffered a serious injury while performing the paso doble with her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Gilbert smashed her head into Chmerkovskiy's leg as he spun her on the ground, causing her to be rushed backstage and eventually taken to the hospital.
Despite the injury, Gilbert continued competing on the show, much to the frustration of Sherri Shepherd, who was eliminated that same week. Shepherd, who was partnered with Val Chmerkovskiy (Maksim's brother), burst into tears upon being voted off, expressing gratitude for the opportunity but also resentment over what could have been.
More than a decade later, Shepherd is still holding a grudge against Gilbert. When Gilbert ran for the presidency of the Screen Actors Guild, Shepherd refused to vote for her, joking, "When she ran for the president of the Screen Actors Guild for the actors, I didn't vote. I didn't vote for Melissa. She even called me, she said, 'Sherri, can I count on your vote?' I said, 'Melissa, did you count on my vote on Dancing With the Stars?'"
Shepherd's comments were prompted by the recent shocking elimination of Fifth Harmony star Lauren Jauregui from the current season of Dancing with the Stars, which has reignited memories of her own experience on the show.
