In March 2025, Melissa Auf der Maur, the former bassist of Hole and touring member of the Smashing Pumpkins, is set to release her new memoir "Even the Good Girls Will Cry: A '90s Rock Memoir." The book, described as "part rock memoir, part travel diary, and part psychedelic scrapbook," documents Auf der Maur's life from her teenage years in Montreal, where she was deeply involved in the city's vibrant art and music scene, to her rise as a musician.
After her band Tinker earned an opening slot for the Smashing Pumpkins, Auf der Maur was invited to join Hole just in time for their 1994 Live Through This world tour. During this time, she bonded with Courtney Love as a friend while grieving the deaths of Kurt Cobain and former Hole bassist Kristen Pfaff. Auf der Maur's memoir promises to offer a unique insider's perspective on the alt-rock world of the 1990s, where she worked not only as a musician but also as a photographer, producer, and more.
