megiapa's Dreamy Debut: R&B Meets Cosmic Jazz

Los Angeles artist megiapa has released her debut album, 'Intentions,' on the International Anthem label. The singer crafts lovestruck reveries by blending R&B, jazz, and electronic music, drawing inspiration from childhood experiences with turntables. Her music emphasizes whimsy and improvisation, creating a unique, wobbly sound.

'Intentions' expands on her signature nocturnal style, incorporating layers of percussion and vocals. The polyrhythmic tracks, largely self-produced, merge funk and downtempo influences. This release highlights megiapa's growth as a bandleader, showcasing her fluid transitions and cool harmonies.

Megiapa finds a unique connection between R&B and electronic music through the lens of dreams, with love transporting her to otherworldly realms. Songs like "( ( on the spaceway ) )" and "Black Gold of the Sun" utilize celestial imagery and warm grooves.

However, the album also explores more grounded emotions. Tracks such as "Can't Believe" and her cover of "Dreaming About You" delve into the pain of doomed relationships and unfulfilled fantasies, providing a poignant contrast to the more ethereal pieces.
