Gulzar Breaks Tradition: Daughter Meghna's Film Song-less

Meghna Gulzar's upcoming film, Daayra, is set to break new ground by being a song-less venture. This marks a significant shift as it's the first time her father, the renowned lyricist Gulzar, has not contributed to his daughter's directorial work. Gulzar confirmed in January 2026 that Meghna's script for Daayra did not allow for musical numbers, postponing their anticipated collaboration. The film features a strong cast, including Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, and reunites Meghna with Junglee Pictures, her collaborators on 'Talvar' and 'Raazi'.

In separate news, Gulzar has recently penned lyrics for a children's film titled 'Masab Tank,' inspired by an area in Hyderabad facing development pressures. He expressed a strong sense of obligation towards creating content for children, lamenting its often-underestimated importance. Gulzar also shared his admiration for filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, hoping he continues to create sensitive children's films like 'The Blue Umbrella,' recalling their past success with 'The Jungle Book' theme song.
