The installation of the 79th and final pillar marks a significant milestone in the restoration of the historic Veera Vasantharayar Mandapam at the Meenakshi Amman temple. This historic structure suffered extensive damage in a fire that occurred on February 2, 2018.
The restoration project, estimated to cost Rs35.3 crore, involved sourcing stone blocks from Pattinam village in Namakkal district. These stones were then transported and sculpted into ornamental pillars at the temple's worksite.
Under the supervision of sthapathi V P Velmurugan, approximately 65,000 cubic feet of stone has been utilized. With all 79 required pillars now sculpted and the final one installed, the mandapam's restoration is nearing completion.
The temple is now preparing for its consecration ceremony, known as Kumbabhishekam, which is scheduled to take place on September 17.
