Summary
- Biopic script uses 2000 personal letters and diary entries.
- Film explores complex relationship between Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi.
- Production aims to start filming by the year-end.
The script for an upcoming biopic on legendary actor Meena Kumari, potentially titled 'Kamal Aur Meena', has been finalized. This film distinguishes itself by drawing its narrative directly from the actor's personal archives, including approximately 2000 handwritten love letters and diary entries exchanged between Kumari and her filmmaker husband, Kamal Amrohi. This unique approach allows the story to be told in their own words.
Director Siddharth P Malhotra disclosed that the script, penned by Bhavani Iyer and Kausar Munir, will explore the intricate and often tragic bond between Kumari and Amrohi, with a significant focus on their iconic 1972 film 'Pakeezah'. The production team is currently in the casting phase, with the intention to commence filming by the end of the year.
While speculation has linked Kiara Advani to the role of Meena Kumari, the director stated that no casting decisions are finalized. This project is one of several biopics announced for the actor; a previous project with Kriti Sanon was reportedly shelved. Meanwhile, Malhotra's next release, 'Ikka', is set to stream on Netflix from July 10.
