Indonesian production company MD Pictures has revealed an ambitious film slate for 2026, focusing on remakes and franchise installments. A notable project includes a remake of Majid Majidi's Oscar-nominated Iranian drama "Children of Heaven," helmed by director Hanung Bramantyo. The company also announced the final chapter of its successful "Danur" horror franchise, directed by Awi Suryadi.
Further expanding its genre offerings, MD Pictures will produce "Rumah Sakit Angker Korea," a remake of the 2018 Korean horror film "Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum." Director Kimo Stamboel is also set to return for "Ivanna 2," another film within the "Danur Universe" franchise. These projects underscore the company's commitment to diverse storytelling and franchise development.
MD Pictures CEO Manoj Punjabi emphasized the company's vision for international growth, stating its aim to be the biggest content powerhouse in Southeast Asia. The company, which launched the streaming platform MDTV in early 2025 and produced Indonesia's highest-grossing horror film "KKN di Desa Penari," is actively seeking global collaboration opportunities.
