McConaughey's Skin Ordeal: Mom's Product Caused Acne
7 Feb
Summary
- Teenage acne worsened by mother's skincare product.
- Dermatologist warned of permanent scarring without swift treatment.
- A lawsuit over the product was dismissed due to his looks.

Actor Matthew McConaughey recently shared a difficult chapter from his teenage years, detailing a severe acne breakout. The struggle began when his mother encouraged him to use a product called Oil of Mink, which she was selling.
McConaughey's skin reacted poorly, leading to swollen, red pustules and significant discomfort. A dermatologist later informed him that the product was too potent for his young skin, having completely blocked his pores and causing severe nodular acne.
The dermatologist warned that he was close to developing permanent ice-pick scars on his cheeks. He was prescribed Accutane to treat the condition, which resulted in side effects like peeling skin and headaches. His father attempted to sue the company behind Oil of Mink for failing to provide adequate warning labels.
However, the legal case was dismissed after a defense attorney learned McConaughey had been voted 'Most Handsome' in high school, which they used to discredit the claim. This outcome deeply disappointed his father.
