Summary

- The item sold for £5,000, double its estimated price.
A key belonging to Sir Paul McCartney's childhood residence has been sold at auction for a substantial sum. The property, located at 20 Forthlin Road in Allerton, Liverpool, was where McCartney lived with his family during the 1950s and 1960s. It was within this council house that he and John Lennon penned some of the earliest compositions for The Beatles.
Following the McCartney family's departure in 1963, the key eventually made its way to an American superfan. This occurred when a subsequent occupant, Ashley Jones, sent the key, attached to a photograph of the house, to fan Kathy Salt in the mid-1960s.
Recently presented at Dominic Winter Auctioneers in the Cotswolds, the key, along with the accompanying photograph and tag, achieved a hammer price of £5,000. This sale more than doubled the auctioneers' initial estimate for the historical item.
