Mayor Dives In Fully Clad, Breaks Pool Rules
27 Jun
Summary
- Mayor Zohran Mamdani entered a public pool fully dressed in a suit.
- He did not wear a bathing suit, violating city pool regulations.
- This stunt followed a similar suit-clad plunge during a campaign.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently participated in the opening of the city's summer pool season by entering the Thomas Jefferson Pool in East Harlem. However, Mamdani drew attention as he did so fully dressed in his characteristic business suit, complete with socks and shoes.
This action directly contravened the city's regulations for public pools, which mandate that all swimmers must wear bathing suits. Male swimmers are also required to wear trunks with mesh lining, or Speedos. The Parks Department enforces these rules to maintain healthy chemical levels in the water.
This was not the mayor's first public appearance in a suit while getting wet. Last year, he made a similar splash at Coney Island's annual Polar Bear Club Plunge. That stunt was part of a campaign promise to freeze rent, a pledge that has since been approved by the New York City Rent Guidelines Board, impacting approximately 1 million rent-stabilized units.
Mamdani's decision to jump into the pool in his attire was met with surprise and excitement by some younger attendees, including 12-year-old Mila Mader, who described the experience of having the mayor shake her hand as amazing.
