Renowned composer Max Richter will be honored with the Berlinale Camera Award on February 18 at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. The award will be presented by filmmaker Chloé Zhao, with whom Richter recently collaborated on her film 'Hamnet.' A panel discussion with Richter is scheduled to follow the ceremony.
Richter's extensive filmography includes iconic scores for 'Waltz with Bashir' (2008), 'Ad Astra' (2019), and 'Mary Queen of Scots' (2018), as well as the HBO series 'The Leftovers.' His work on 'Waltz with Bashir' earned him a European Film Award, and 'Ad Astra' received a Grammy nomination.
Beyond his film scores, Richter has released significant solo projects like 'The Blue Notebooks' and the 8.5-hour composition 'SLEEP.' His most recent solo album, 'In A Landscape,' was released in 2024. Berlinale Director Tricia Tuttle praised Richter's "profound passion for cinema," stating his compositions "deepen and transform the cinematic language."
