Alamo Drafthouse Mueller Renamed for Matthew McConaughey

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's Mueller location in Austin, Texas, is set to be renamed the Matthew McConaughey Cinema next week. This honorific renaming will be marked by a ceremony on Monday, August 10, following a screening of McConaughey's new film, "The Rivals of Amziah King." A plaque will be unveiled during the event.

McConaughey is now recognized alongside other distinguished filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan, Pam Grier, and Spike Lee, who have had Alamo Drafthouse locations named in their honor. He expressed his gratitude, stating that the theater dedication in his name in Austin, a city that has shaped him, means a great deal.

Alamo Drafthouse CEO Michael Kustermann highlighted McConaughey's impact on how audiences connect with movies and his integral role in Austin's creative fabric. Austin Mayor Kirk Watson also lauded McConaughey as a beloved local icon and praised his community contributions, adding, "It's alright, alright, alright!"

Following the screening, McConaughey will introduce the film and participate in a Q&A with director Andrew Patterson and star Angelina LookingGlass. The event will conclude with a live performance of songs from the film by cast musicians. "The Rivals of Amziah King" world premiered at SXSW in 2025 to critical acclaim and stars actors including Cole Sprouse and Kurt Russell. The film opens limited on August 14.
