- Robin Williams' advice helped Lawrence avoid substance abuse.
- The Mrs. Doubtfire cast formed a genuine family unit on set.

Matthew Lawrence recently reflected on his time working on the 1993 film Mrs. Doubtfire. He described Sally Field, who played his on-screen mother, as a true maternal figure, recalling her kindness and support. The extensive filming period, which spanned six to eight months, fostered a strong sense of family among the cast.
During filming, the cast spent significant time together, including a month of rehearsal for a key restaurant scene. Lawrence noted that Field and co-stars Robin Williams and Pierce Brosnan treated him with respect, neither condescending to him as a child nor overexposing him to adult complexities.
Lawrence also revealed that Robin Williams offered him pivotal advice about avoiding substance abuse. Williams shared his own regrets, urging Lawrence not to "put that stuff in your body." He also imparted lessons on compassion and not judging others.
Lawrence and his brothers, Joey and Andrew, have recently released a graphic novel titled The Lawrence Brothers Detective Agency, which includes a tribute to Field and Williams for their roles in Mrs. Doubtfire.
