Matt Barr has officially joined the cast of AMC's highly anticipated NASCAR drama, 'Thunder Road,' securing a series regular role. He will share the screen with lead actor Dennis Quaid, who portrays the patriarch of a legendary racing family.
The series, created by John Fusco, delves into the multi-generational saga of the fictional Whitlock family. Their legacy in stock car racing is deeply intertwined with their Southern hill country origins, forming the core of the drama.
Dennis Quaid stars as Duane Whitlock, also known as 'The Wrecking Ball.' He is depicted as a formidable figure who built a racing empire from humble beginnings, including moonshine runs and dirt track races, and is determined to preserve his family's legacy against ruthless competitors.
Matt Barr will play Calvin Whitlock, Duane's ambitious elder son. Calvin, now a businessman running the Victory Lane Tap Room, has been intentionally distanced from the racing world but faces his own struggles with debt and expansion plans for his threatened enterprise.
Production for 'Thunder Road' is scheduled to begin this summer, with the series expected to launch in 2027 on AMC and its streaming platform, AMC+. The network officially greenlit the series in late April.
The show is executive produced by John Fusco, Taylor Elmore, Cliff Roberts, Mark L. Smith, and NASCAR Studio's Tim Clark and John Dahl, with Gladys Cheng serving as producer. The series is produced in association with NASCAR.
