A striking 6ft by 5ft textile artwork, drawing inspiration from Ahmedabad's GI-tagged Mata ni Pachedi, is slated for exhibition at the Xtant Art Festival in Mallorca, Spain. This piece, depicting Goddess Kali and other symbolic motifs, was created in Ahmedabad by traditional Chitara artist Kirit Chitara in collaboration with Istanbul-based artist Jennifer Ipekel.
The collaboration, which spanned two months, utilized natural dyes to bring the artwork to life. The artists aimed to showcase the deep-rooted culture and traditions of Mata ni Pachedi and Kalamkari art forms on a global platform. Jennifer Ipekel expressed her attraction to the theme of goddess worship and the profound symbolism inherent in Mata ni Pachedi, viewing it as a living heritage.
This unique creation is seen by the artists as an extension of the Mata ni Pachedi ethos, translated into a universal language. They hope it will serve as a creative source, motivating viewers to connect with sacred powers and the concept of unity. The artwork also features a 'dream tree' alongside the depiction of the goddess, signifying a blend of tradition and modern artistic expression.
