Marvel Star Vincent D'Onofrio Eager to Play Swamp Thing

In early 2023, a new Swamp Thing movie was announced as part of the Gods and Monsters slate, but the project has been moving slowly since then. While director James Mangold was initially attached to helm the film, he has since shifted his focus to other projects, including a Bob Dylan biopic and an upcoming Star Wars movie.

Despite the slow progress, one actor is particularly eager to take on the lead role: Vincent D'Onofrio, known for his acclaimed portrayal of Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. The Kingpin, in Marvel's Daredevil. During a recent panel at L.A. Comic Con, D'Onofrio expressed his passion for the Swamp Thing character and his desire to bring the powerful, tragic figure to life on the big screen.

D'Onofrio, who has been a fan of the Swamp Thing comics since his youth, believes that his ability to access the character's depth and connection to nature would result in "incredible cinema." The Swamp Thing is a complex character, perceived as a monster despite his god-like bond with the natural world, and D'Onofrio's acting prowess could do justice to this nuanced role.

While the actor doesn't believe his chances of actually landing the part are high, the new leadership at DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, have been making some savvy decisions lately. If they recognize D'Onofrio's enthusiasm and talent for the role, the casting may not be as impossible as he thinks.
