Prime Video Unveils Marília Mendonça 'Verse'

Prime Video is creating an expansive 'Marília-verse' focused on the life and music of the late Brazilian superstar Marília Mendonça. The streamer will release a documentary series, "Marília Mendonça: Sentimento Louco," this year, followed by a biopic about the singer next year. The highly anticipated role of Mendonça in the biopic, titled "Marília," has been awarded to Marina Versos, an actress with no prior professional experience, selected after an extensive casting search.

Mendonça, who tragically passed away in a plane crash in November 2021 at the age of 26, rose from humble beginnings in Goiás to become one of Brazil's most beloved artists and a pioneer in the sertanejo music genre. Her music, often drawing from personal experiences, resonated deeply with many women in Brazil. The "Marília-verse" aims to explore her story in depth, reflecting Prime Video's strategy to produce more content based on true, relatable stories.

The "Marília-verse" is also part of Prime Video's broader initiative to showcase diverse regions and untold stories from across Brazil. The "Marília" biopic is directed by Dainara Toffoli, with a screenplay by Carina Schulze and Patrícia Andrade. Amazon MGM Studios is optimistic that Versos will become a breakout star following her portrayal of the beloved icon.
