Scottish-Chinese actress Marli Siu is set to star in the upcoming folktale film "Wicker," featuring a notable cast including Oscar-winner Olivia Colman and "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage. The movie tells the story of a fisherwoman, portrayed by Colman, who finds her love life complicated by a persistent fishy odor. Desperate for affection, she enlists a local basket weaver, played by Dinklage, to fashion her a husband out of wicker.
This wicker creation, brought to life and played by Alexander Skarsgård, proves to be so captivating that it ignites fierce jealousy among the village's women, threatening the established social harmony. The film, which also features Elizabeth Debicki, has been described as a raunchy take on "The Canterbury Tales."
"Wicker" recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where cast members attended a screening. Following the festival, Black Bear Pictures acquired the movie's rights for distribution in the US. Siu, who plays the prudish sister to Dinklage's character, expressed her excitement for the film's release, noting that Colman considers it one of her top three favorite scripts.
