Marilyn Monroe's enduring fascination is highlighted by numerous centenary celebrations, including museum retrospectives and auctions. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is exhibiting hundreds of original items, notably including the rarely seen, floor-length pink dress Monroe wore while singing "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (1953).
Further adding to the festivities, a Marilyn Monroe lookalike contest is scheduled for May 30 in Palm Springs, near the "Forever Marilyn" statue. This event aims to gather the largest number of Monroe impersonators.
Auctions are also a significant part of the commemorations. Heritage Auctions is holding "Marilyn Monroe, Unfiltered" on June 1 in Dallas, featuring items from her close friends, the Rostens. Julien's auction house will present "100 Years of Marilyn" on June 4, with notable lots including a 1946 make-up chart and a 1962 lip pomade jar. A new book, "Marilyn Monroe 100: The Official Centenary Book," has also been released.
